A Socio-Political Listicle
Things I don't like when I'm asked to like them, because they don't like me.
My recent Note asking why I should support a political philosophy that hates me got a lot of likes and feedback so I thought I would expand my thoughts.
My point is that the Dems/Libs/Lefts make demands of certain identities (to use their term) that are in conflict with those groups’ self-interest, often to the point of harm. Then they act shocked that those harmed identity groups won’t support them. It’s perplexing unless you understand radical Left psychology.
There’s all sorts of reasons I’ve gone from being a standard issue liberal to some shade of conservative red. For this list, I want to keep to items that directly effect me, as a straight white veteran man, to emphasize that conflict of interest. So, to give some examples:
The Veterans Administration, under Trump, had its backlog reduced to 100,000 appointments (still awful). Under Biden, it’s back to 300,000 and climbing.
Also, the VA is being used to medically treat illegal immigrants, pushing the veterans to the back of the line.
Speaking of veterans, the Censorship-Industrial Complex labels vets as racist, anti-government and worthy of monitoring and potential censorship. Because gee, it’s not like veterans have any reasons to not trust our government.
The National Endowment for the Arts gives funding to literary magazines that openly state in their submission guidelines they won’t accept submissions from whites, men, colonizers, straights, etc. So my tax money is funding censorship against myself. FAIR has done good reporting on this.
Last autumn Bloomberg published an article showing that, among the S&P 500, only 6% of new jobs went to whites. So these people don’t think I should have a job.
But hey, as long as I’m working, let’s pay reparations. At both the state and federal level, there’s an exorable march towards racial reparations, that is, punishing people who didn’t commit the crime of slavery for something that happened long before they were born. Not punishing people for a crime which they did not do is pretty basic to a functional justice system. Which means our justice system is no longer functional. Or about to be.
But why be worried about all that silly justice? With the new revisions to Title 9, the Biden administration rolled back the protections for males accused of rape put in place during the Trump administration. That is, men don’t deserve legal due process when accused.
And so on. That’s just a few examples off the top of my head, I’m sure I could think of more if I gave myself a day or two to think about it. Time and again, Team Blue comes up with an idea, regulation or law that is directly detrimental to my life and I’m expected to cheer for it. If you’re a ex-liberal like myself you probably have friends and family still on that team who are completely aghast when attempt to explain why you’re not supporting everything they do without hesitation. “Attempt to explain” because usually, the conversation is immediately over if you express any disagreement. We’ve all been there.
But why? As a recovering child of the Radical Left, I have a good idea. Basically, in their philosophy being alive means being a bad person. We didn’t use modern terminology back in the 1970s and 80s but the Woke ideas were the same. Confess you’re a “colonizer,” an incipient male chauvinist, blah blah etc. Even needing things like food, care, respect and self-worth were a problem, because that means taking away resources from the more needy of various categories. Or causing environmental damage. Or they just didn’t like people who had a little bit more than they did.
(I saw a funny bit recently asking, didn’t we go from paper to plastic because we were told to save the trees? And now we’re going from plastic to paper to, uh, save the trees? Which is why I’m going to the Ren Faire next weekend and having a medieval armorer make up some steel chainmail shopping bags. Easily recyclable and if an environmentalist doesn’t like it, I’ll belt them across the face with my groceries.)
Many of the proponents of this would not think they were being bad people if pressed about it. They were just not aware of the damage they were doing. The steady tap tap tap tap against a child’s sense of self-worth. And against themselves, internalizing the sacrifice for the greater good, as defined by…somebody.
You learn to reflexively denigrate yourself and so accept sociopolitical ideas that are harmful to yourself. All for your own good and the good of society.
Saying no, I am a good person and deserve dignity, the right to earn the things I need, and the fruits of my efforts resulted in abuse and nowadays, cancellation.
It’s like having someone punching you in the face while yelling “be my best friend!”
Back in the day, I would have said, oh yes, you’re a victim and I’m not, so treat me badly as I am a bad person because I exist. Take whatever you want, give me nothing.
My answer to that nowadays is a definitive “no”.

"Also, the VA is being used to medically treat illegal immigrants, pushing the veterans to the back of the line."
Holy shit.
